:)Been on the Ribble today. My debut on the rivers. Thought I would see what all the fuss was about. Got some last minute tips from Chris and Chaddy at fishermans retreat set off and "What a Day" Im hooked. Will be there again soon. Within 10mins of gettin my hookbait in after baiting up with the blockend feeder for 20mins I got hit from all I can assume was a very large barbel, but as soon as I connected the line came free and I had been smashed. Anyway 1 hour later the action started again and a dozen chub followed, along with numerous eels. Darkness was nigh at 4.15pm and my last cast was hit by this lovely Chub (Cant upload photos for some reason). Cant wait to get back there.

nice one crucianman. A nice debut bag of fish. Them barbel hit hard. dunno what you mean by connecting but theres not many times you need to strike into a barbel. rather a well set clutch to absorb the hit. Enjoy!

That I think was the problem. At the time the barbel hit. Two guys were talking to me behind me. I noticed my rod come off the rest and nearly into the water. As soon as I got hold of the Rod I could feel the fish but then snapped. Think the clutch was set wrong, But Hey Ho you live and learn. There was 5 others on the stretch I was fishing but only one other caught a small chub. Back there in 2 weeks with a mate who is also a stillwater man making his debut on rivers after 30 years on stillwaters. Ill be able to give him the benefits of my bad and good fortune. Anyone got any tips on rigs for the feeder would be appreciated. I was fishing with a short feeder boom with a blockend/maggot feeder using 4mm halibut pellets in the feeder and a piece of meat on a size 10 with a 6" hooklength. Changed to a 1 1/4oz lead with worm on a size 14 later on.

well if i'm fishing the pellet its hair rigged on a simple running feeder rig. If i'm fishing for smaller stuff its a paternoster rig and a quivertip. nice simple rigs. nothing technical for me
