Had a great sesh on here with my dad earlier, first time he's been able to wet a line this year so we were really looking forwards to it. Great time, fish from the very first put in, skimmers, roach, perch, lovely rudd and baby chub. Lost count of the numbers we had, biggest was a bream maybe 2lb (set up a feeder rod to try to find some bigger fish), plenty fun. Lost a few fish to pike right in the edge, I think we had a little group taking it in turns to nobble hooked fish. There was a match taking place on both dam walls, I didn't see anyone catch while we were there, must have been a bit of a sickener for them to see us filling out boots. Thoroughly tempted to give it another go after work this week.

Went on again last weekend with my dad, went to the same spot, but the water had dropped by a good 18". We could see some decent fish moving further out straight in front of us, so I started to put some feederloads of maggots out there. I should have twigged from the angle of the line, but finally did when a duck paddled out to where I'd be casting, up-ended and started to have a free feast! There was a silt bar out there which meant that the feeder was landing in about 12" of water, and the fish that were topping were probably just swimming over the top of this bar to get from one place to another. We ended up with just enough fish to have made it worthwhile going, but all small, none of the chunky rudd or skimmers from last time. Still had Pike up for a free meal, I bet come Oct 1st they all vanish away from there! FFWD to this weekend, we decided to try again in but in a different spot. Had a look at both sides, decided to go back to the East bank as it was slightly more sheltered (some lads fishing the 'tip on the West bank looked thoroughly miserable huddled up against the wind). On the way over the dam wall had an entertaining exchange of views with a stupid b1tch on a horse which she had no control over (my missus and her daughter ride regularly and I enjoy going with them every now and then, but I still think riders on roads should have the same sort of licence and insurance that vehicles have to have). She started shrieking and upsetting the horse further when I said that animal shouldn't be on public roads with an incompetent rider so I told her to fk off back to the stable with it and stay away from it until she'd learnt to ride and got over her menopause. Felt better after that. Anyway, got set up with a waggler rod, started catching after about 15 minutes, also set up a feeder rod. My dad went on the straight lead after a short while, and was quickly into a string of perch, roach and one little Ruffe (he had a pet Pike sat in front of him virtually begging, every time he went to put a fish back he had to watch out for it, as it was it had five free meals), I had plenty skimmers up to about pound-and-half, plus more perch, roach and hybrids. The weather got really crappy, fine rain that drifted under the brolly, but as long as you're catching it doesn't really matter. I hooked one heavy lump, felt like a decent bream, but just as it was nearing the bank the hooklink went, shouldn't have happened but I can only assume it had got frayed on a rock while I unhooked something else. Nice session, had to cut it a little bit short because I got offered a table at Sokrates in Horwich after a cancellation, but that was a great night as well so can't complain.

Went on here today fished in the corner next to the dam wall on Horrobin Lane. The weather was beautiful , but managed to temp 2 pike out biggest a touch under 10lb, got them both on Blueys(my new fav bait), I reckon they will be perfect in proper deep winter cos they're full of oils and juice, when i had my second fish there was a huge slick on the surface from when the pike had bitten into it, and i hadn't injected it either!
